ANIMATION: CHOOSING TODAY FOR OUR TOMORROWS: A VIDEO ARTWORK RESPONSE
Climate change and sustainability – these seem like huge problems for our generation, and it does feel very overwhelming. However we must see that our decisions, both big and small, will make a difference for our environment. We can learn from our past, but it is our choice now that will impact our future, and we will do this together!
The animation you see is inspired by cartoons from the 90’s that used transitions between illustrations, known as ‘picture-mation’, which is unlike frame-by-frame animation. This style is itself inspired by storybooks with sounds.
To differentiate the ‘themes’ in the story, I took a leaf from the art style of risograph printed storybooks I read as a child where the artwork is in hues of the same colour.
Let us try our best together for a better future!

This video artwork was done in response to the open call by the National Museum of Singapore and Maybank Foundation, and the showcase ‘Rooting for Change’ was featured on the LED wall in the Museum in 2022. For information on the showcase, you can click here!
